Author of Barnstorming, a negro baseball story

Jonathan Carroll is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but his family roots trace back to Eatonville, Florida, the first legally incorporated, all-Black town in the United States. He is the great-grandson of Columbus H. Crooms, one of Eatonville’s earliest mayors, who served the town for twenty-five years from 1938 to 1963. Growing up, Jonathan spent significant time in Eatonville, developing a deep connection to its history, community, and legacy, an influence that continues to shape his creative work.
An avid traveler and lifelong athlete, Jonathan is a competitive Masters volleyball player and won gold at the 2025 International Masters World Tournament in Taiwan. He continues to compete at a high level internationally, embracing sport as both discipline and storytelling, an arena where teamwork, resilience, and identity intersect.
Jonathan also devotes his free time to exploring the world, including scuba diving some of its most remarkable underwater sites. His passion for storytelling is deeply rooted in family tradition, passed down through generations in the oral storytelling lineage common to many African American families.
A member of SAG-AFTRA, Jonathan is now expanding into a new creative chapter as a writer and producer, bringing historically grounded, character-driven stories to the page with an eye toward film and television adaptation.
